Module 1 · Your coverage

What’s actually in your policy.

Most drivers can name their premium but not their limits. Here’s what each line on your declarations page means — in plain English, not policy-speak.

Auto liability

Pays for injuries and damage you cause to others. FMCSA requires $750,000 for general freight — but most brokers won’t load you under $1M.

Physical damage

Collision and comprehensive for your own truck and trailer. Your lender probably requires it — and the stated value on the policy decides your payout.

Motor truck cargo

Covers the freight you’re hauling. Brokers typically require $100,000 — reefer, electronics, and high-value freight often need more.

General liability

Covers non-trucking incidents — someone hurt at your terminal, your shop, your yard. Your auto policy doesn’t touch these.

Trailer interchange

Covers trailers you pull but don’t own, under interchange agreements. No signed agreement, no coverage — get the paperwork before you hook up.

Non-trucking liability

Bobtail coverage for when you’re driving without a trailer or off dispatch. Your motor carrier’s policy stops when the dispatch does.

The fine print

Three lines that decide every claim.

Coverage names get the attention. These three decide what actually happens when something goes wrong.

Deductibles

What you pay out of pocket before coverage starts. A higher deductible lowers the premium — but the cash has to be there when it counts.

Exclusions

What the policy won’t cover — wear and tear, certain commodities, intentional acts. Read these before you need them, not after.

Limits

The maximum the policy pays — per occurrence and in total. A $1M limit doesn’t mean $1M for every claim: check per-occurrence vs. aggregate.

Module 2 · The math

Your premium, per mile.

Insurance feels abstract until you divide it by your miles. Type your numbers — the math stays on your phone, and the answer might change how you read your next quote.

Example: $18,000 ÷ 100,000 miles = $0.18 per mile. Your numbers, your answer.

$0.18
per mile
That’s $1,500 a month — before a single mile is driven.
Module 3 · Your next quote

What may affect your price.

Nobody can promise you a lower premium — not us, not anyone honest. But these are the levers underwriters actually look at. Know them before you shop.

Equipment

Age, value, and safety tech on your truck and trailer. Newer equipment with collision mitigation reads differently than a 15-year-old tractor.

Freight type

General freight, reefer, flatbed, hazmat — each carries different risk and different rates. Haul what’s on your policy, not just what’s on the trailer.

Operating radius

Local, regional, or 48-state. More states and more miles generally mean more exposure — and a different number.

Loss history

Claims and violations over the last 3–5 years. Your loss runs tell the story — pull them before your agent does.

Drivers

Experience, MVRs, and turnover. A clean, experienced driver list is one of the strongest signals you have.

Experience

Years in business and years with a CDL. New authorities pay more — that’s the market, not a conspiracy.

Limits & deductibles

Higher limits cost more; higher deductibles cost less. The trade-off is yours — make it on purpose, not by default.

Safety programs

Some insurers run programs that consider verified safety data or telematics. Ask your agent what’s actually on the table — credits vary widely.

Module 4 · Before your renewal

Walk in with a file, not a guess.

Navdy keeps your renewal date on the radar and your documents in one file. This checklist is what organized drivers bring to the conversation — print it, check the boxes, hand it to your agent.

Straight talk

What Navdy is — and isn’t.

What it is

A decision tool. It organizes what you already pay for, does the per-mile math, and keeps your renewal dates and documents in one file — so you ask better questions.

What it isn’t

Navdy is not an insurance company, broker, or agent. We don’t quote, place, bind, or guarantee coverage — and we don’t have insurance partners. Coverage decisions belong to you and a licensed professional.

FAQ

Insurance questions, straight answers.

No. Navdy is not an insurer, broker, or agent. We help you understand what you pay for and organize your documents — you keep your agent and your carrier.

We can’t promise any rate or discount — only your insurer sets those. What this page does is give you the math and the checklist to negotiate from strength instead of guessing.

If your liability filing lapses, FMCSA can revoke your operating authority — which means no loads, period. Insurers must give 35 days’ notice before canceling a filing, so read every notice the day it arrives.

Only you, unless you choose to share it. Your records are never sold and never sent to an insurer without your explicit say-so.
